What was Kanye West thinking last night at the 12-12-12 Hurricane Sandy Relief concert at Madison Square Garden? You may have been fortunate to miss it but I’m sure you heard about it on Twitter and Facebook. The outspoken rapper performed in a black leather Givenchy skirt layered over a pair of tight leather pants for the event. His girlfriend, Kim Kardashian, tweeted, “Awwwwwwww I’m so excited right now!!!!! He looks so cute!!” His music is great but is style has been going down hill since the days he was popping his collar.
Additionally, Anne Hathaway flashed photographers as she was sliding out of her car with an under-skirt shot this week at her latest film premiere, Les Miserables, in New York City. I think most guys who saw The Dark Knight Rises were hoping that she would go commando in public sometime or another. We’re not digging her short haircut so much at NSD, but we’re happy to see she decided not to wear underwear at her premiere. Hathaway claims she is upset about the incident but what did she expect would happen if she constantly has paparazzi photographing her and she goes out without panties? See the pics here.
Tonight is one of the better TV nights of the year: The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Not only does the show line up hands down the 15 hottest girls on the planet (Miranda Kerr, Candace Swanepoel, Erin Hetherton, Allessandra Ambrosio, Adrian Lima being the top 5), it also brings in a ridiculous set of artists every year to play their hits while the supermodels walk around them. This year it’s Jay Z, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, and Maroon 5. The thing to remember is DO NOT WATCH THIS WITH GIRLS. Girls spend the first 30 minutes saying things like “she’s too skinny!” and “I honestly don’t even think that one is that attractive,” followed by spending the last 30 minutes angrily saying things to the guys in the room like “Is that how you want us to look?” and “Guess I’ll be starving myself for the next 3 months.” Do yourself a favor and don’t invite any girls over for this one. The video is some highlights from tonight’s show since it was filmed a few weeks ago. Does anyone have a better life than Adam Levine right now? His job is to literally sing a few songs in front of thousands of adoring fans, and then afterward he bangs his supermodel girlfriend. That’s his life. Like the worst part of his life is when he’s working, and by working I mean he is singing songs. Fuck off Adam Levine.
A couple weeks ago the song Mama’s Boy was leaked to the public, what was at the time thought to be Kanye’s long-awaited release of the final version of the song after he performed it acapella at the Facebook offices last year. But late last week, Kanye’s publicist issued the following statement:
“The version of the Kanye West recording “Mama’s Boy” that arrived on blog sites earlier this week is entirely bogus and unsanctioned, and violates the artist’s creative intentions. As is often the unfortunate case, an unknown party or parties got a hold of Kanye West’s vocal track and added their own soundbed to it, effectively and falsely releasing it as a Kanye West track from the My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy sessions. The result in no way resembles the final song Kanye West intended his fans to hear, and he is deeply disappointed that one of the most personal, meaningful and special songs he has ever written would reach people in this way. Needless to say, measures are being taken to identify and prosecute the persons responsible for leaking this material.”
Wow. It’s pretty disappointing since whoever mixed this made it sound exactly like Kanye’s old stuff (ie anything before the last two albums. This isn’t saying the last two aren’t also great; they are. They’re just different). Either way, the song is worth a listen since it is Kanye’s raw verse and it’s an awesome song regardless of who laid down the beat.
In the first of a four-part series, avid NSD reader and guest columnist MemoFromTurner proposes an index for rating girls we can all relate to, the Cut O’ Beef Index. Enjoy.
Now that Lady Gaga has made the old “Objectifying Women with Meat Metaphors” trick cool again with her infamous meat dress at the 2010 VMAs, I would like to take this opportunity to make some Meat Metaphors of my own here at NationalSkirtDay.com. Please keep in mind that this post is a piece of Performance Art and, as such, anyone offended by the words contained within just don’t get the joke and are probably brainwashed by the very same corporate / conservative / homophobic / oppressive monoculture that visionaries like myself and Lady Gaga are bent on smashing. It’s ironic, get it? (Note: This Performance Art piece is intended to be a multimedia experience. I think you will find that the theme songs provide a fairly accurate audio/visual description of each Cut [major props to Mick Jagger for saying what I didn’t have the balls to say publicly], as well as being 9 pretty great songs in their own right.)
