Wish us luck. Couldn’t be more excited, and also lucky to be alive after attending EDC in NYC only 2 weeks ago. Renting a badass RV with a bunch of flat screens, 9 beds, and a full kitchen so we can make delicious food the whole time AKA eat cheese puffs all weekend. Most pumped for Saturday night: Childish Gambino, Dispatch, The Roots, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Skrillex ALL IN A ROW. Also excited for: Beach Boys, Radiohead, fun., Foster the People, Young the Giant, Ludacris, Big Gigantic, and about a million others. And obviously going to Silent Disco every single night, where they a DJ plays a set in complete silence and they pass out headphones to everyone. A couple other staff members will be hanging around our offices but hoping to have some posts on our Twitter (@natlskirtday). I’m sure my phone will die about 5 hours in so don’t expect much. Wish us luck.
Over the past few weeks a lot of random “hints” about the Bonnaroo lineup have been leaked, but today the most likely lineup tidbit was leaked: an actual screenshot of the lineup. Again, I guess this could have been faked, but it is worth noting that Bonnaroo just updated their website as well and said they’ll be announcing it officially next week. If true, looks pretty awesome. Red Hot Chili Peppers, Eddie Vedder, and Childish Gambino the highlights for me. Either way, check it out.
Take this with a grain of salt, but Glide Magazine, a somewhat reputable source (in that they’ve correctly predicted the majority of the lineup the last few years) has compiled a list of the rumored headliners for Bonnaroo this year. And: Wow. The headliners: Paul McCartney, Lady Gaga, Fleet Foxes, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Eagles, Phish, Radiohead and Prince. Not to mention the hundred or so other bands that always frequent these festivals regardless of year, like Avicii, Childish Gambino, Pretty Lights, Girl Talk, etc. I never thought I’d love Bonnaroo only because I always thought of it as strictly a hippy jamband fest, but that’s clearly no longer been the case over the last few years with the lineups, which feature bands for every type of music. Official lineup and tickets go on sale in mid-February. After the jump, I included the full article with more lineup news. Continue reading
Now that you are recovering from a near deadly amount of food it’s time to listen to something that will motivate you to pick yourself off the ground. I realize Childish Gambino was also last week’s skirt jam of the week, but there’s really no other option than to post as much of his music as possible right now. His album Camp dropped last week and literally every single person I’ve talked to absolutely loves it. There’s not one bad song on the album, and it turns out that he also has awesome songs that somehow didn’t even make it on, like Freaks and Geeks. This guy better become a huge star or I’m going to spend the next 10 years angrily turning off the radio and listening to his music on my headphones.
I’m not gonna lie I’m pretty jealous of Donald Glover AKA Childish Gambino. Not only does the guy star on a network TV show (Community) and have a standup comedy special on Comedy Central this weekend, he just released his first full album, Camp, and it’s absolutely incredible. I’d like just one of those talents. Guy does it all. Not even kidding one of the best rap albums I can remember coming out in a long time. Listen to a couple of his songs and you’ll be immediately hooked not only by the sick beats he uses, but the incredibly smart and witty verses he drops throughout. A rapper who makes references to humblebrag (an amazing twitter if you don’t follow it) and Toejam and Earl? This guy’s gonna be huge. I posted Sunrise here, but also check out Heartbeat, Bonfire, or LES.
