It is only week 2 of the 2013 NFL season and Eddie Royal already has 5 receiving touchdowns? At this point it looks like he is Philip Rivers’ favorite target since Denario Alexander is out for the entire season. I had thought Vincent Brown was the next big receiver in San Diego but Eddie Royal has proven me wrong. We didn’t see any action from Royal last year because he was injured and the years before that he played on the Broncos with shitty quarterbacks including Tim Tebow. His rookie year with Denver he put up 1,000 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns. Maybe this is going to be a big year for him and he will prove to be the Victor Cruz or TY Hilton of 2013. Although he could be a bum the rest of the season, I think he is the best option on the waiver wire this week. However I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t score another touchdown the rest of the season. McCoy is making rivers throw shorter, high percentage passes to make him less mistake prone. Last year he was making too many risky throws downfield. It’s a change for him, because he has never been a check down QB but as the season goes on he will probably use Royal and Woodhead to move the chains a lot more often. I can only hope, for my fantasy football team’s sake, that finally having a good QB will make Royal the player he was drafted to be.
